 | THERESA NANIGIAN: INTERVIEW SATURDAY 22 OCTOBER 2011. TEMPLE BAR GALLERY & STUDIOS, 12 – 6 PM PRESENTED AS PART OF ‘VISIT 2011’, A SERIES OF OPEN STUDIOS ACROSS DUBLIN CITY FLOOD is pleased to announce Interview by Theresa Nanigian, the first in a series of projects looking at the idea of the interview. Questions are posed to the artist and they can respond in any way they choose, in the knowledge that the results may be presented online, in the curator’s studio at TBG+S, or in print at a later date. Nanigian’s Interview takes the form of a Powerpoint presentation, hosted on a Mac within the studio at Temple Bar. Interview considers the curator’s questions in an alternative way, sometimes approaching the questions with humorous, thoughtful, playful and considered responses. This new work offers, as with much of Nanigian’s practice, an insight into the thought processes of making, creating, and considering audiences. THERESA NANIGIAN was born in Maryland, USA and lives and works in Dublin. Nanigian’s solo exhibitions include Two souls in one breast, West Cork Arts Centre (Skibbereen), Summer 2009, and Mermaid Arts Centre (Bray), Spring 2009; I Will Be A Phenomenon, FLOOD Dublin, 2008; the Void Art Centre (Derry); and the Butler Art Gallery (Kilkenny); as well as group exhibitions including I Am Not A Poet, TotalKunst Gallery & VerySmallKitchen, Edinburgh, Scotland, Summer 2011; Art in the Life World (Dublin); Is Mise Ireland (Shanghai & Beijing), EASTinternational 2006 (Norwich), Tulca 06 (Galway); and Damaged Collateral (Derry). FLOOD is a Dublin-based contemporary art project curated by Paul McAree. The project was initiated to provide opportunities for the presentation and dissemination of artwork in alternative ways, and to look at issues in contemporary art practice. Flood aims to develop its presence in Dublin city, building on its commitment to present artworks in alternative ways, from printed projects to organising exhibitions in temporary locations. Paul McAree is recipient of the 2011 Curator in residence award at Temple Bar Gallery & Studios, from June 2011 to June 2012. McAree will use the studio as a base research Flood projects, including the interview series, exhibitions within various venues within Dublin city, and contributing to the curatorial programme at TBG+S.
